The Governor of Kebbi State, Dr Nasir Idris has decided to name the horse racing ground after the Emir of Gwandu Maj.-Gen. Iliyasu Bashar (Rtd).
This was made known by him on Saturday following the final match of the racing competition which was held in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital. He included that the racing competition would become a yearly international event to attract the audience and promote good governance and unity.
In his statement he said“I am going to make this game an international one to elevate its status and ensure that it gains more recognition, I really appreciate the involvement of Emirs in this competition and their blessings count a lot,”.
“In his remarks, the President of the International Horse Racing Competition and the Estu Nupe, Maj.-Gen. Yahaya Abubakar thanked the Kebbi State governor as well as the organisers of the programme for making it successful and a reality.However, the Governor’s Horse, that emerged as the overall winner in the first position got a car and a cash, the second position received cash and a motorcycle, and the third position was given a cash reward.
