Abia State Government has confirmed that the earlier ban placed on the annual convention of the Apostolic Christian Church Mission, ACCM, in Aba, is still in intact.
The annual convention of the church, which holds every January in Aba, has not been held in recent times following the leadership crisis that has engulfed the church.
Following the crisis, the state government had banned the 2024 annual convention of the church.
Special Assistant on Religious Matters to Governor Alex Otti, Apostle K.C. Wiper, in a statement, disclosed that the attention of the state government was drawn to a publication on the Facebook page of the church claiming that the governor has recognized a General Overseer for the church and also approved the annual convention.
He said: “Let it be known to all and sundry that Dr. Alex Otti has neither approved the lifting of ban earlier placed on the 2024 annual convention nor endorsed anyone as General Overseer.
“It is important to state categorically that the Governor has no role in selecting leadership for the church, or any church for that matter.”
