On Thursday, gunmen in the Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State attacked several communities, killing sixteen people.
The attackers are thought to be bandits. This occurs just 24 hours after competing militia groups terrorized the Gbagir community in the state’s Ukum LG, killing at least 40 people.
A source claims that the bandits launched a killing spree on Thursday, when they ransacked approximately 11 communities in their most recent attack.
According to sources, the state’s security chiefs and deputy governor, Sam Ode, have conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the area.
Emmanuel Adesina, the Commissioner of Police, had left for the troubled area and would return with details of the incident, according to Catherine Anene, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State Command.
