Boxing enthusiasts have been urged to lend support as Coach Lasisi Mayowa, also referred to as Coach Mayor, is currently in need of immediate medical attention due to a serious kidney problem.
Due to his failing health, Mayowa, a well-known figure in the boxing community, was admitted to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja on Sunday, April 21.
Funmilayo, his spouse, who is beside him in the hospital, stated, “We are still awaiting test results, but Mayowa’s condition is very serious.”
“The physicians have stated that until the required tests are finished, they are unable to estimate the cost of treatment.”Mayowa needs extensive medical care, and his current finances cannot support the cost. Given this, he and his spouse have appealed for financial support to guarantee he gets the medical attention he needs.
Funds may be deposited into Lasisi Mayowa’s GTBank account, which has the account number 0132024908, according to Funmilayo.
As evidenced by the over N40,000 donated by some members of the AIBA PRO BOXING WhatsApp Group, who also made contributions to support late boxer and coach Jeremiah Okorodudu last year, the boxing community has already come together in support of Mayowa.
Funmilayo gave a thank-you speech to those who had helped her and her family, saying, “My family and I really appreciate everyone sending money to us.” We are grateful for the prayers and donations, and we hope to receive more in the future.
Babatunde Laguda, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, informed our correspondent that Mayowa was admitted to the hospital when his health worsened.”He was stable earlier, but on Sunday, his condition worsened and they had to take him to the hospital.”
They have been receiving some help on our Whatsapp group, so I did what I could to obtain the information there.Laguda stated, “We hope his condition gets better. He is a good coach.
“In addition to being a founding member of the YUCATECO Boxing League, Coach Mayowa has developed a number of boxers out of his Lagos club.
His son and daughter both excelled in the game, taking home medals from the 2023 National Youth Festival in Asaba, Delta state.
