Dr. Musibau Olasunkanmi has been named as the new Registrar/Chief Executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
Following the approval of the Institute’s Governing Council at its meeting on December 15, 2023, the appointment was made public on Friday.
According to a statement from the accounting body, Olasunkanmi’s appointment was made as a “strategic decision that exemplified ICAN’s unwavering commitment to developing a strong leadership team and steering the Institute in the direction of sustained growth and influence.”
On Thursday, Olasunkanmi took over as Registrar/Chief Executive, replacing Mr. Mukaila Lawal, who was serving as Acting Registrar/Chief Executive and is scheduled to retire on March.
After holding leadership roles in both the public and private sectors, the new ICAN Registrar brings over 16 years of professional experience across multiple functional areas.
The statement disclosed that Olasunkanmi is a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, with an HND in Accounting, an M.Sc. in Accounting from Afe Babalola University, an MBA from the University of Lagos, a B.Sc. in Accounting from Adekunle Ajasin University, and a PhD in Forensic Accounting & Audit from Charisma University, Turks and Caicos Island, UK.
ICAN expressed optimism that Olasunkanmi’s creative leadership would support the organization’s ongoing success.ICAN stated, “We offer our sincere congratulations to Dr. Olasunkanmi and convey our best wishes for a successful tenure in office.
“The ICAN Act (Cap. 185) states that the registrar is in charge of creating and keeping “a register of the names, addresses and approved qualifications, and of such other particulars as may be specified in the rules, of all persons who are entitled in accordance with the provisions of this Act to be enrolled as fellows or as associates, or registered as registered accountants, and who, in the manner prescribed by such rules, apply to be so registered.”
