A traffic advisory has been released by the Lagos State Government in advance of this Saturday’s annual Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which takes place between 5:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
This was stated in a statement released on Friday in Lagos by Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation.
Drivers would be unable to access the following routes during the marathon, according to Osiyemi. He indicated that the routes were Funsho Williams Avenue to Anthony, Gbagada, Third Mainland Bridge, Stadium, Surulere, and Ikorodu Road.
“The others are the Third Mainland Bridge (both inbound and outbound), Dolphin Road connecting to Alfred Rewane Road, the Falomo roundabout leading to Bourdillon Road, the Lekki Bridge connecting to Freedom Way, and the Akin-Adesola connecting to Ahmadu Bello Way,”Using the Eko Bridge through the Costain Roundabout, Iponri, and Bode Thomas to reach a desired destination, or using the Eko Bridge through the Costain Roundabout and Apapa Road to connect Oyingbo/Jebba to Herbert Macaulay for a desired destination, are the alternate routes that are available during the marathon, according to him.
In order to access Apongbon, motorists can also travel via Victoria Island, linking the Independence Bridge and CMS Bridge, as well as Ijora-Olopa to Iddo and Oyingbo, which connects to Herbert Macaulay Road.
“The Third Mainland Bridge will not be accessible to drivers from 12 p.m. tonight until the conclusion of the marathon, for those who are trying to traverse it,” he stated.
Osiyemi also implied that all trips leaving Lagos Island via Ikorodu Road and Funsho Williams Avenue would not be affected by the diversion.
He continued by saying that for smooth traffic flow and driver safety, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officers would be stationed at the diversion points.
But Osiyemi cautioned drivers not to go near the marathon diversion routes if they had any important business there.
