According to Access Holdings Plc, a helicopter accident in the United States claimed the lives of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, the company’s chief executive officer, as well as his wife and son.
Sunday Ekwochi, the Group Company Secretary, signed a statement on Sunday making the announcement.”The Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc (‘the Company’) announces with great sadness the passing of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, CFR, the founding Group Chief Executive Officer of the Company and the former Group Managing Director of its flagship subsidiary, Access Bank Plc (‘the Bank’).”
“Dr. Wigwe perished in a helicopter accident in the United States of America on Friday, February 9, 2024, along with his wife and son.The passing of Herbert, Doreen, and Chizi is mourned by the whole Access family.
We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.”Dr. Wigwe, who joined the Bank in 2002, was a major force behind the transformation of the Access franchise.
His extraordinary passion, energy, and experience were invaluable. Regarding updates on the incident, which happened close to the California-Nevada border, the company said it was working with US authorities.
