Islamiyat Oyefusi, the deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, resigned from the party on Wednesday.

In the 2023 governorship race that incumbent governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu won, Oyefusi ran alongside Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

“It is time for me to move forward, as I can no longer see myself aligning with the current values of the Labour Party or as a member,” the letter stated. I am formally notifying you that I have decided to leave the Labour Party with this letter.”

These past ten months of my political career have been incredibly interesting. I give thanks to the All-Powerful God who has seen me through in good health and with His grace.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to my team and supporters throughout Lagos State and Nigeria in general.

Despite the challenging terrain, they worked incredibly hard with me on our achievements during the 2023 electioneering period—an accomplishment of which we can all be extremely proud.

I also want to thank the ObiDatti family and NCF for their tremendous support. It was an honor and a privilege to travel that journey with you all.”Oyefusi also competed as the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for senator from Lagos East in 2019.
